Czech Republic reports 7,117 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Monday, there were 7,117 new cases of covid-19 in the Czech Republic, 152 more than a week ago. There were 5,854 patients in hospitals with coronavirus on Monday, which is about 400 more than on Sunday, compared to last Monday, there are about 400 fewer. Nine hundred eighty-eight people are in serious condition. A week ago, there were over 1,000 of them. The PES epidemic system index remained at 73 points. All four evaluated indicators improved slightly, but the reproduction number remains above 1.0.

The number of people in whom a new coronavirus has been confirmed in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the epidemic last March is approaching one million. To date, there have been about 994,500 people. Currently, there are about 92,700 people with covid-19 patients. The number of deaths from coronavirus has risen to 16,545 since the beginning of the epidemic. So far, there are 63 deaths on Monday. With later updates, this figure usually increases.

The current record for the number of deaths in one day is from last 3 November, when 262 people died in connection with coronavirus. In the past week, there was an average of 124 deaths per day in the Czech Republic. According to statistics, more than 4,500 people died in January. The monthly maximum remains November’s 4,936 deaths.

At the beginning of November, hospitals faced the largest influx of patients with covid to date, with the daily number of hospitalizations repeatedly exceeding 8,000. Since the beginning of this year, the maximum was 7473 cases from 7 January. Since mid-January, the number of hospitalizations has been declining so far, with a few exceptions. By releasing the capacity of hospitals, government officials condition the transition of anti-epidemic measures in the Czech Republic to a lower degree. Now the strictest fifth-degree applies.

Laboratories performed over 63,600 PCR and antigen tests for the presence of coronavirus on Monday. According to preliminary data, a quarter of the samples were positive. In a week-on-week comparison, the positivity of the samples increased by 2.5 percentage points. However, the data usually are subject to retrospective revisions.

The worst epidemic situation is now in the Sokolovská region, where there have been 1230 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week. Cheb follows it with 1098 cases and Trutnov with 1043 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous seven days.

To date, healthcare professionals in the Czech Republic have administered almost 280,066 doses of covid vaccine, and over 44,700 people have received both doses. Of these, 6309 people were vaccinated on Monday.

In the Czech Republic, it has been vaccinated against coronavirus since 27 December, and so far, the vaccine has been received mainly by healthcare professionals and seniors over the age of 80. Nine thousand six hundred eight doses of vaccine were given on Monday, compared to about 2,600 less than the previous Monday.
