Czech Republic reports 5,522 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Tuesday, there were 5,522 new cases of covid-19 in the Czech Republic, 3,100 less than a week ago. This is the lowest daily increase on weekdays since December 14. Since the onset of the epidemic last March, tests have shown a new coronavirus in about 1.56 million cases. The number of deaths as of Tuesday rose to 27,329. According to the Ministry of Health.

The simplified reproduction number fell below 0.67 on Tuesday, which is the lowest value since the beginning of October when the Ministry of Health began publishing this data as part of the anti-epidemic PES system. The reproduction number in the Czech Republic is below 1.0 on the 30th day in a row. So far, it had the highest value last year on October 9, when it was higher than 1.75.

The reproductive number indicates the average number of people who get infected with one who has tested positive. If it is higher than one, the disease’s spread accelerates. If lower, the epidemic slows down.

Since the beginning of this year, 828,500 proven cases of the disease have been added to the statistics, about 53 percent of all cases since the epidemic. However, since the beginning of the second week of March, the numbers of new cases have declined week-on-week. The only exceptions were Friday, March 12, and Sunday, April 4.

Recently, covid has spread the most in the Děčín region, where there are 326 confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. Jihlava follows it with 323 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week.

The number of deaths of people with proven covid is also gradually declining. March was 12 days, with more than 200 people dying a day. There has not been a single such day in the last two weeks.

There were 6,744 patients with proven covid in hospitals on Tuesday. Compared to Easter Monday, it was an increase of 484 cases, while in the week-on-week comparison, it decreased by 1,100 hospitalized. There were 1365 covid patients in serious condition.

Of the more than 22,600 standard hospital beds with oxygen, about a quarter was unoccupied this morning. According to data from the Ministry of Health, one-fifth of beds with lung ventilation in the Czech Republic were vacant.

Laboratories performed over 241,000 tests on Tuesday, of which 218,000 were antigenic. Compared to Monday, when it was a holiday, it was almost five times. Compared to Tuesday, a week earlier, the total number of tests increased by 27,400, but there were 5,500 less accurate PCR tests.

The share of positive tests in the number of preventive examinations, which make up the vast majority of the total number of tests, fell from 0.6 to 0.32 percent compared to the previous Tuesday. In the so-called epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example, the proportion of positive dropped from 12.3 to 8.1 percent due to possible contact with the infected. In the diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms, for example, are already being tested, the proportion of those infected in the number of tests fell from 26 to 22 percent.

On Tuesday, medics in the Czech Republic administered 41,564 doses of some of the three types of covid vaccines. That was 4,300 less than the same day a week ago.

The total number of vaccinated doses is approximately 1.86 million. Almost 612,000 people have both the necessary benefits.
