2.5 million in Czechia now fully vaccinated

2.5 million in Czechia now fully vaccinated - Czech Points

More than 2.5 million people in the Czech Republic have completed vaccination against covid-19. About 4.7 million people have received at least one dose of vaccine in almost half a year since the start of vaccination, or about 44 percent of the population. According to experts, vaccination is the main reason why the epidemic has subsided in recent weeks. On Saturday, there were 63 more cases of coronavirus in the Czech Republic, at least on the first day of the weekend since last July 11th. One week ago, tests revealed ten more infected, but at the same time more were tested. In the week-on-week comparison, in addition to the tests, the number of vaccinated women also decreased. This follows from information on the website of the Ministry of Health.

The reproduction number showing the spread of the epidemic rose slightly from 0.66 to almost 0.72. The lower it is, the less the infection is spreading in society.

The number of hospitalized with covid-19 continues to decline. The ministry now registers 73 of them, 11 of them in serious condition. There are nine people infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the past week, just like the previous days. In the last 14 days, there were 22 confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the republic.

On Saturday, medics gave 47,587 doses of covid vaccines, about 4,500 less than a week ago. On weekdays this week, over 110,000 people were vaccinated each time, most on Thursdays, almost 17,500. In total, almost 7.19 million doses of vaccines have been administered in the Czech Republic since the beginning of vaccination last December. More than two and a half million people are fully vaccinated, and about 4.7 million Czechs have at least one dose of covid vaccine. Including only people over the age of 16 who can still get vaccinated, almost 53 percent of the population already have at least one dose.

The epidemic in the Czech Republic has been slowing down for several weeks, the numbers of newly confirmed cases, hospitalizations and other indicators are now at the level of last year’s holidays. According to experts, the favorable situation is mainly helped by the ever-higher vaccination coverage of the population. However, there is a risk of more contagious mutations in the virus, which can worsen the epidemic situation again.

Since the beginning of March last year, when coronavirus tests in the Czech Republic were first confirmed, covid has demonstrably suffered over 1.66 million people, almost 98 percent of them have recovered in the meantime and 30,280 infected have died. While in March, when the epidemic peaked, 200 people died daily with a proven infection, this week the number of deaths per day did not exceed four. The ministry has not registered any deaths on Monday and Saturday, but statistics may change retroactively.

On Saturday, the laboratories performed almost 42,000 tests, most of the antigenic and over 12,000 more accurate PCR tests. On the same day of the previous week, there were a total of about 5,000 more tests. The positivity of the tests has increased, which is common on weekends. In the most frequently performed tests – preventive – the share of positives rose slightly to 0.06 percent. For the so-called diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms, for example, are already being tested, it has increased to 0.73 percent. In the epidemiological indication of tests, where people are tested, for example, for possible contact with the infected person, the proportion was 0.26 percent. When the epidemic peaked in the spring, the positives of the tests were many times higher.

The so-called incidence number, ie the number of people infected in the past week, calculated for every 100,000 inhabitants that the government focuses on during the disintegration, has stagnated again today and remains at nine. It did not change in most regions, in a few it increased slightly, in the Moravian-Silesian region it decreased. The lowest is still in the Karlovy Vary region, where there are two cases of infection per week per 100,000 inhabitants, in the Hradec Králové region there are three cases. Prague still has the highest number with 15 cases.
