Slovakia logs highest daily new COVID-19 cases since June - Czech Points

Slovakia has the most laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the last more than five months on Thursday. The number of hospitalized patients in connection with coronavirus infection also increased more markedly, reaching a maximum since the beginning of June. This follows from today’s data of the Slovak authorities. This week, the Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský stated that it is estimated that the spread of the infection in the country will accelerate significantly by the end of September. Slovakia lags behind the EU average in vaccination against covid-19.

Laboratories in Slovakia, with a population of 5 million, found 902 newly infected with coronavirus on Thursday, which is the most cases since April 13. One tenth of the total number of tests performed ended with a positive result.

Slovak hospitals admitted 139 patients with covid-19 or suspected of having the disease on Thursday. The total number of mentioned patients thus rose to 393, which is the most since the beginning of June.

With a population twice as large, the Czech Republic confirmed 550 new cases of covid-19 on Thursday. According to the latest data, there are 158 people in hospitals associated with coronavirus.

Lengvarsky said on Thursday that at the end of September Slovakia would see daily increases of up to 3,000 infected and that the number of patients in hospitals related to coronavirus infection would rise to 500 to 750. During the previous second wave of coronavirus infection, there were over 4,000 such patients in hospitals.

Due to the current spread of coronavirus, Slovakia is tightening quarantine measures in a number of districts, which concern, for example, the conditions for holding mass events or the operation of various operations.
