Senator Hamousová stripped of immunity - Czech Points

Senator Zdeňka Hamousová (ANO) immunity was revoked by the Senate today. Hamousová faces prosecution for driving under the influence of alcohol in April.

The senator apologized for her actions. “I am aware that I have not acted correctly. I must bear the possible consequences of my misconduct,” said the senator, who finished her speech in tears. 58 of 60 senators, including Hamousová, voted in favor of the issue, and two members of the upper house did not abstain.

Police discovered the drunk Hamousová during a traffic check in Žatec on 9 April around 00:55. The senator gave a blood sample, but not a breath test.

Hamousová faces up to one year in prison, a fine of 25,000 to 50,000 crowns, and her driving privileges revoked for one to two years.

Hamousová was elected to the upper house in 2014, and her term ends this fall. She was previously the director of the Basic Practical School in Žatec.
