Radek Pobořil, musician dies at 75 - Czech Points

Radek Pobořil, a musician and longtime member of the Čechomor group, died on Tuesday after a serious illness. The band announced it on social networks. He played the accordion, wind and brass instruments. He was 75 years old.

“We are very sorry, but we would like to inform you with great sadness that our friend and teammate died today after a serious illness. Sincere condolences,” Čechomor said on Facebook on Tuesday evening .

Pobořil was born in 1946 in Frýdek-Místek. He studied trumpet and accordion at the Ostrava Conservatory. From the age of 15 he was a member of the National Theater Drama Orchestra. He has been playing with Čechomor as a guest member since 1988, he became a permanent member in 1990, the band states on its website . Pobořil also collaborated with the songwriter Jaromír Nohavica, participated in the recording of his album Babylon, and subsequently played several concerts with Nohavica. He arranged music for big bands, devoted himself to playing in jazz clubs, and taught trumpet players jazz improvisation at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory.

The Čechomor group, which processes folk songs in an original way, has been active on the music scene for over thirty years. It was originally called the first Czech-Moravian independent music company and was founded in 1988 in Svitavy. Its members first played hawker songs in the markets. Although their music later gained a more rocky charge, the folklore base remained in it. She released her first album Dověcnosti in 1991. The turning point for the band with leaders František Černý and Karel Holas was the year 2001, for which she won three Anděl awards – as the band of the year, for the album Proměny and for the song of the same name. So far, the last album was released by Čechomor last autumn, according to one of the collections of the poet František Gellner, it is called Joy of Life.
