Czech Republic sees decline in COVID-19 cases

Czech Republic sees decline in COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

There were fewer new coronavirus cases on Thursday than a week ago, with laboratories reporting 4,048 infections, which is about 2,400 less than last Thursday. Compared to Wednesday, the increase is lower by about 900 cases. The number of people with coronavirus whose condition requires hospitalization is also declining.

According to the latest data on Wednesday, there were 5,210 of them in the hospital, 200 less than Tuesday. The total number of deaths with covid-19 has risen to 7,779, with 60 deaths so far on Thursday. The PES risk score remains at 57 points on the fifth day, in the third of five alert levels. According to the Ministry of Health.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, 511,520 people are infected with the new coronavirus in the Czech Republic. More than four-fifths of them have already recovered from the disease. There are currently 71,867 people ill. In most infected people, the disease is mild.

The spread of the disease in the Czech Republic has been slowing down in recent weeks. This week, the Ministry of Health registered 4,380 new cases on Monday, 5,860 on Tuesday, and 4,931 on Wednesday. However, according to the government, the coronavirus epidemic is not slowing as it had imagined and planned. It is not so confident whether the Czechia will move to a milder third level in the anti-epidemic PES system from Monday, which envisages shops, restaurants, and services, albeit with several restrictions.

From Monday, the government’s measures in the Czech Republic apply according to the fourth, second highest degree of risk. To move to an even milder level, the PES score of seven days, until Sunday, needs to remain at the third level between 41 and 60 points. The Ministry of Health’s expert team can then propose further mitigation measures to the government. The score is based, among other things, on the value of the reproductive number, the average number of others infected from one positive test. According to current data, it fell to 0.91.

On Wednesday, Chief Hygienist Jarmila Rážová pointed out that about six to seven of the 14 regions are more at the fifth degree in terms of the PES system. At a meeting with the governors, she said that if the regions’ situation did not improve, disintegration would not be recommended to the minister.

In recent days, the coronavirus has spread the most in Havlíčkův Brod, where about 578 infections per 100,000 inhabitants have been recorded in the past seven days. The Svitavy region follows it with 384 cases, and the Opava region registered 361 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week.
