Czech Republic reports 976 new COVID-19 cases
Laboratories in the Czech Republic confirmed 976 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, at least since Sunday 13 September. The daily increase was less than 1000 last time on 20 September. A week ago, on Easter Sunday, the number of confirmed cases more than doubled. Weekend numbers are lower due to less testing intensity. Hospitalized with covid-19 continued to decline to 5,070, the lowest since late December. According to the Ministry of Health, the number of 1157 patients in severe conditions is the lowest in almost two months.
However, the reproductive number indicating the rate of spread of the epidemic increased further, approaching one. The number of other people on average infected by one positive test has risen to 0.96 to date. He was similarly high for the last time on 17 March. If the reproductive number is lower than one, the epidemic’s spread slows down. Above one, it accelerates.
Since the onset of the epidemic last March, more than 1.581 million coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. The number of deaths from the infection increased to 27,918 on Sunday, with less than 100 people dying in the last three days. Before that, the daily number of deaths with covid-19 was below 100 for the last time on 20 December.
At Sunday’s 5,070, the number of people hospitalized with covid-19 fell by almost 1,300 week-on-week. However, hospitals’ burden remains high because ministry statistics do not include patients who are already negative but still need hospital care. As of this morning, 28 percent of the standard oxygen beds were available. Two thousand three hundred thirty-seven unoccupied beds were designated for patients with covid-19.
Laboratories performed 43,326 antigen tests on Sunday, about a third more than a week earlier. However, the number of PCR tests decreased to 5,622. A week earlier, there were more than 7,000.
The share of positive preventive tests, which make up the vast majority of the total number, fell to 0.47 percent. In the case of an epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example, for possible contact with the infected, the proportion of positives decreased from 14.28 on Saturday to 8.2 percent on Sunday. For the diagnostic indication, which is testing, for example, people with symptoms, the proportion of those infected in the number of tests fell from 17.77 to 13.87 percent.
Coronavirus is now the most widespread in the district of Žďár nad Sázavou, where they recorded almost 425 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days. Českolipsko follows it with 387 and Jihlava with 385 recalculated points.
Next in line is Děčínsko, with 382 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week. In this district, hygienists noted the occurrence of the Brazilian coronavirus mutation, and schools, unlike the rest of the country, have not opened there today.
On Sunday, medics in the Czech Republic distributed 18,125 doses of the covid-19 vaccine. In total, people have already received 2,089,570 doses, 718,765 people need both. Doctors administered most doses since the start of vaccination in December on Thursday. According to updated data, there were 65,149. Saturday’s 28,790 doses were mainly on the weekend. The government planned to vaccinate 100,000 people a day after Easter, but supplies of vaccines are stuck.
The state of emergency in the Czech Republic ended at midnight on Sunday, so the ban on traveling between districts or going out at night no longer applies. Contrary to expectations, however, the rules for collection have not yet been relaxed. The government will assess the maintenance of the limit for meetings of a maximum of two people outdoors and indoors, proposed by the new Minister of Health Petr Arenberger (ANO). At the same time, first-grade pupils are returning to schools today, and the operation of particular and kindergartens is also being renewed.
