Czech Republic reports 9,446 new COVID-19 cases
On Wednesday, there were 9,446 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Czech Republic. It is a decrease of about 800 infected against Tuesday and about 200 against last Wednesday. Nevertheless, it is the third highest daily increase in the previous three weeks. There are 5,817 patients in hospitals with covid. 1,057 of them are in severe condition. So far, 17,772 people have died with coronavirus in the Czech Republic.
Since March, when the coronavirus epidemic broke out in the country, 1,064,952 people have been shown to have been infected. Almost 949,000 of them were cured of the disease. There are currently about 98,000 infected in the country, most of whom have a mild disease course.
One of the most monitored data in recent weeks is the number of hospitalized due to hospitals’ tight capacity. One week ago, there were about 100 more people in hospitals with covid-19 than now. On the other hand, the number of patients in severe conditions increased slightly. However, the Ministry adjusts the data retrospectively.
The statistics do not include patients who do not show coronavirus symptoms after ten days and remain in hospitals. According to the Ministry of Health, hospitals are on the brink of their capacity, and the government is not yet going to mitigation measures against the spread of the disease.
It has been vaccinated against coronavirus in the Czech Republic since 27 December. So far, medics have administered 399,896 doses of the vaccine, more than 15,000 of them on Wednesday. So far, 128,817 people have received the second dose. However, according to ministry statistics, vaccination with AstraZeneca, which began distribution on Monday, has not started. So far, only vaccines from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna have been vaccinated. The vaccine is mainly given to health professionals, workers, clients of social facilities, and seniors over 80.
Deaths with covid this year are more than 100 a day, fewer were on 20 December. There are 118 victims on Tuesday and 61 on Wednesday, but these figures usually increase with further updates. “Because the reporting of deaths has a certain delay compared to the real situation due to the validation and closure of cases of regional hygienic stations, the daily records may change retrospectively due to continuous replenishment,” the ministry said.
The most affected regions are now Cheb, Sokolovsko, and Trutnovsko. In the past seven days, the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants has significantly exceeded a thousand cases. The government has, therefore, restricted movement in these districts today. People will not be able to leave or travel to them. Exceptions to the restrictions on movement will be, such as attending school or work. People in these three districts will be required to wear surgical drapes.
The anti-epidemic system (PES) index, which shows the development of the coronavirus epidemic in the Czech Republic, is currently at 71 points. At this level is the fifth day in a row. The reproduction number, which shows the number of people infected from one positive test, has a value of 1.04. The PES index since mid-January corresponds to the fourth degree of measures against the spread of the disease. However, the strictest fifth-degree still applies in the country. The change is not planned due to the fullness of hospitals.
