On Thursday, there were 8,916 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the Czech Republic. It’s 600 less than on Wednesday, but 800 more than a week ago. The number of patients hospitalized with covid-19 dropped slightly to 5,771 patients on Wednesday, 1,075 in a serious condition. To date, healthcare professionals have given over 421,000 doses of vaccination to people, with 175 showing doses of AstraZeneca for the first time on Thursday.

The number of hospitalized is one of the most monitored in recent weeks due to hospitals’ tight capacity. One week ago, there were about 200 more people in hospitals with covid-19 than now. On the other hand, the number of patients in severe conditions increased by 50 in the week.

However, the Ministry adjusts the data retrospectively. Also, the statistics do not include patients who do not show coronavirus signs after ten days and remain in hospitals. According to the Ministry of Health, hospitals are on the brink of their capacity, and the government is not yet going to mitigation measures against the spread of the disease. Due to the end of the emergency on Sunday, he will also have to determine how to proceed in the fight against coronavirus.

Today, the districts of Cheb, Sokolov, and Trutnov are closed due to the rapid spread of the disease. These are the most affected districts in the country. In the past seven days, the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants has exceeded 1,100 cases. With some exceptions, people living in these districts cannot leave the district, but residents of other regions cannot enter there. Exceptions apply to schoolchildren or people who commute to work, to the office or see a doctor.

It has been vaccinated against coronavirus in the Czech Republic since December 27. So far, medics have administered 421,000 doses of the vaccine, more than 17,000 of them on Thursday. So far, 143,659 people have received the second dose. According to ministry statistics, the AstraZeneca vaccine was launched on Thursday, and distribution began on Monday. From December, it was vaccinated only with a vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech, and from January also with a substance from Moderna. The vaccine is mainly given to health professionals, workers, clients of social facilities, and seniors over 80.

Since last year, when the coronavirus epidemic broke out in the Czech Republic, 1,073,966 people have been shown to have been infected. Nearly 956,000 were cured. There are currently over 100,000 infected people in the country, most of which are mild. Seventeen thousand nine hundred two people died in connection with the infection. The number of deaths with covid this year exceeds one hundred a day, less than the last time on December 20. There are 110 victims on Wednesday and 59 on Thursday, but these figures usually increase with further updates.

The anti-epidemic system (PES) index, which shows the development of the coronavirus epidemic in the Czech Republic, remains at 71 points on the sixth day. The reproduction number remains at 1.04. Above one, which indicates an accelerating epidemic, the number has been hovering, except since the beginning of February.
