Czech Republic reports 8,032 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Thursday, the number of newly confirmed cases of covid-19 in the Czech Republic was almost half that of a week ago at 8,032.

The percentage of positive cases fell to 28.3 percent, according to the Ministry of Health. The number of deaths with covid-19 since the beginning of the Czech Republic’s disease epidemic in March has exceeded 14,000. It took seven days to reach the last thousand deaths, while at the beginning of December, there were 1,000 deaths in about ten days.

The daily numbers of deaths of people with covid-19 have been around 150 to 180 since the beginning of January. In the first half of December, the numbers of deaths were significantly lower, mostly around a hundred a day. Since March 1, when the first cases of coronavirus infection appeared in the Czech Republic, a total of 14,029 of the total 874,605 infected have died.

In the last two days, the number of people who ended up in the hospital due to covid-19 has decreased. At the beginning of the week, the number of hospitalized rose to more than 7,400, dropped to 7,284 on Wednesday and about 7,000 on Thursday. Of these, about 1,100 patients are in serious condition.

Last week saw the highest daily increases in the number of people infected during the entire epidemic. A record of more than 17,700 cases was added on Wednesday. The proportions of positive tests were also high. They reached almost 43 percent, according to current data from the Ministry, which takes into account all tests, not just the so-called PCR tests. Throughout this week, daily increases in the number of infected and proportions of positive tests are lower than on the same days of the previous week.

The disease has spread the most in recent days in the Trutnov region, where in the past seven days, there has been an increase of about 1,130 cases of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants. In no other district in the Czech Republic, the number of new cases per week per capita exceeded one thousand.

The risk index of the anti-epidemic system PES, which governs measures against the spread of covid-19 in the Czech Republic, remains in the fourth degree. Officially, the highest, fifth level of alertness is in force in the country so far. Today, the PES index fell again, from Thursday’s 75 to 72 points out of a hundred. It has been declining for three days in a row.

This morning, a system was launched to register people over 80 to be vaccinated against covid-19. According to Smart Quarantine, 75,000 people visited the site in the first two minutes. The system shows problems with sending PIN codes via SMS, which arrive at applicants in more than ten minutes, or with booking appointments for vaccinations at a specific place.
