The number of new cases of covid-19 in the Czech Republic decreased on Thursday compared to Wednesday and last week. Laboratories detected 7,874 positive tests for coronavirus, with about a thousand more on Wednesday and almost 5,400 more a week ago. The number of people who are currently ill has decreased to 140,201, mostly with mild symptoms. The number of hospitalizations has also gone down. There are 7,564 patients in hospitals, of which 1,120 are in serious condition. However, another 47 deaths have been added since Thursday evening for a total of 5,755. Since March 1, when the disease appeared in the country, 446,675 people have been infected with coronavirus, and over 300,000 have been cured.

The growth rate of new cases is slowing down for several days. According to the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, the reproductive number, which indicates the average number of other infections from one tested positive, and describes the disease’s spread rate, fell to 0.8 this week. According to the head of health statisticians Ladislav Dušek, the government’s measures against the spread of the epidemic are behind the decline.

But deaths continue to rise, with more than 2,000 people dying from coronavirus since early November. According to current data from the ministry, 91 died on Thursday, but data on victims usually increase with further updates. The number of dead with a confirmed covid-19 has started to increase significantly, mostly since October, and recently almost two hundred people have died daily. The limit of 200 deaths per day was exceeded several times. The current record of 247 deaths is from November 3.

Among the regions, Havlíčkobrodsko is now the most affected by the spread of the disease, where they have recorded 813 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days. It is followed by the Pelhřimov region with 773 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants, and over 700 data were also obtained in the Strakonice district. On the contrary, Prague-West is relatively best off, with 202 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 population in the past seven days. There were 214 recalculated cases in Prague.
