Czech Republic reports 7,663 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Monday, laboratories in the Czech Republic detected 7,663 new coronavirus cases, 463 more than a week earlier. With covid-19, there are 5,855 people in hospitals and about 200 more a day. The number of patients in severe conditions has dropped by five to 1,032. The coronavirus PES index remained at 71 points. According to the Ministry of Health, after revision, it is at this level for the third consecutive day.

The daily increase in new cases of the disease thus increases again compared to the previous week. On Sunday it decreased slightly. Since the beginning of the epidemic last March, statistics record 1.045 million infection cases, 932.156 people have been cured. Both antigenic and PCR tests were performed on Monday than a week ago; PCR tests showed infection in 27.6 percent of those tested.

Compared to the previous Monday, there are about 200 fewer patients with covid-19 in hospitals and an increase of about 20 in people with a severe disease course. According to the Ministry of Health, hospitals are on the brink of their capacity, and the government is not yet going to mitigation measures against the spread of the disease.

Deaths with covid-19 have been increasing by more than a hundred a day since the end of last year, and their number will increase by about a thousand every week. The ministry reports 107 of them on Sunday and 67 on Monday, but the numbers usually increase retrospectively.

The disease continues to spread the fastest in the Trutnov region, where approximately 1,210 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 population have increased per 100,000 people. This figure is still over a thousand in the Sokolovská and Cheb regions, from where patients have to be transported to other parts of the Czech Republic due to hospital overload. The situation is relatively the best in the Jesenice region, where they recorded 108 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week.

So far, medics have administered 365,712 vaccinations in the Czech Republic on December 27, with about 13,000 on Monday. So far, 105,097 people have received the required second dose, about a tenth of them on Monday. So far, the vaccine is mainly given to health professionals, workers and clients of social facilities, and seniors over 80. Vaccines from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna are currently being screened in the Czech Republic, and vaccination with a substance from AstraZeneca, whose distribution in the Czech Republic began on Monday, has not yet appeared in the published statistics.
