Czech Republic reports 7,015 new COVID-19 cases
On Wednesday, there were 7,015 new cases of coronavirus in the Czech Republic. The lowest increase on Wednesday this year. In a week-on-week comparison, this is a decrease of 240 cases. There were about 1,450 more new infections compared to Tuesday, but Tuesday’s increase was the lowest in a working day since mid-December. So far, 27,466 people have died with covid-19 in the Czech Republic. According to the Ministry of Health.
According to revised data, the number of patients hospitalized with coronavirus dropped by almost 500 to 6504 patients on Wednesday. One thousand three hundred forty-nine of them were in a difficult state, 50 less than on Tuesday. To this morning, a quarter of standard oxygen beds were available in Czech hospitals. Two thousand sixty-two of them are reserved for covid patients.
Laboratories performed about 190,000 tests on Wednesday, of which 163,000 were antigenic. Compared to Tuesday, the total number of tests dropped by about 90,000, compared to last Wednesday by about 19,000 less.
The share of positive preventive tests, which make up the vast majority of the total number, was 0.5 percent, which is roughly the same as a week ago. In the so-called epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example, due to possible contact with the infected, the proportion of positives increased slightly to 10.6 percent compared to the previous Wednesday. When people showing symptoms are already being tested in the diagnostic indication, the proportion of those infected reached 27.3 percent. A week ago, it was 25.7 percent.
The coronavirus is currently the most widespread in the Jihlava region, where it has recorded 354 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days. Over 300 indicators reached this area in the Tábor, Děčín, Most, Českolipsko, Mladá Boleslav, Orlickoústecký regions and closely also in the Pelhřimov and Zlín regions. On the contrary, the situation is relatively best in the Cheb region, where 28 people per 100,000 were infected last week.
The simplified reproduction number increased from 0.67 to 0.73. Indicates the average number of people who get infected with one who has tested positive. If it is higher than one, the disease’s spread accelerates. If lower, the epidemic slows down. The reproduction number has been kept below one value continuously since March 8.
So far, healthcare professionals in the Czech Republic have administered 1,909,475 doses of vaccine against the new type of coronavirus, of which 41,460 were on Wednesday. So far, more than 634,000 people have received both required benefits.
Since the beginning of the epidemic last year, 1,567,848 people have been demonstrably infected with covid in the country. More than 1.4 million of them recovered from the disease.
