Czech Republic reports 550 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Thursday, tests in the Czech Republic confirmed 550 new cases of covid-19, 130 more than a week ago. This was the third day in a row when the increase exceeded 500 cases. In the last week, there are 28 newly detected cases of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants in the Czech Republic, which is the most since the end of May. According to the latest data, there are 158 people in hospitals in connection with the covid. According to the Ministry of Health.

Thursday’s 550 cases represent the second highest daily increase this week. On Tuesday, tests revealed six more cases of infection. On Wednesday, 526 positive samples were published.

Coronavirus infection is spreading the fastest in Prague, with an average of 45 new cases per 100,000 population in the last seven days. It is followed by the Karlovy Vary region with about 40 and the Moravian-Silesian region with 36 cases per week in terms of 100,000 people. On the contrary, the Liberec region is the best, where the incidence number is below ten.

At the district level, the situation is the least favorable in the Opava and Karlovy Vary regions. In Opava and its surroundings, there are 67 new cases of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, in the district of Karlovy Vary it is 61 cases.

The reproduction number indicating the number of infected from one positive test increased slightly from 1.1 to 1.13. The reproduction number has remained above the break value one since 26 August.

There were 158 people in hospitals on Thursday with a proven covid, 29 of them in severe condition. Compared to Wednesday, the number of hospitalized decreased by three, while in the week-on-week comparison it increased by 46 cases. There are almost twice as many patients in severe conditions as on the previous Thursday.

Laboratories tested 76,300 samples for SARS-CoV-2 on Thursday, about 10,000 less than a week ago. However, the difference may be further reduced, as the data on the tests performed are slightly delayed.

Since the beginning of the covid-19 epidemic last March, a new type of coronavirus in the Czech Republic has been shown to have infected over 1.68 million people, of whom 30,427 have died. Since the beginning of September, 14 deaths have been added to the statistics so far, almost the same as for the whole of July. Three people died with the covid on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to available data, people’s interest in covid vaccination continues to decline. Paramedics administered 10,766 doses on Thursday, while the average on the working days of the previous week was almost 15,500 doses. The total number of doses administered since the start of vaccination at the end of last December is close to 11.7 million. 5,878,580 people are fully vaccinated in the Czech Republic.
