Czech Republic reports 5,406 new coronavirus cases - Czech Points

On Monday, there were 5,406 confirmed coronavirus infections in the Czech Republic, 642 less than a week ago and at least on working days in the last month. Compared to Saturday and Sunday, the increase is higher, but less is tested on weekends. 117,858 people are currently infected, of whom 6,592 are in hospitals. The number of deaths with covid-19 rose by 85 to 6,416 on Monday. According to the Ministry of Health.

Since March, when the disease began to spread in the Czech Republic, coronavirus tests have been detected in 465,523 cases. Most infected people have a mild course of the disease. 341,249 people were cured, almost three-quarters of those infected so far.

According to experts, the spread of the epidemic in the Czech Republic has been slowing down, especially in the last week; the numbers of new positive tests are lower in the week-on-week comparison. At the same time, however, the number of tests decreased the previous week. On Monday and Tuesday, the number of tests decreased by thousands compared to the last week, and from Wednesday to Saturday by more than 10,000. On Sunday, the laboratories performed 8,960 of them since October 4, when there were less than 7,800. The share of positives fell to 21 percent on Sunday from 26 percent on Saturday. The ministry will inform about the number of Monday’s tests tonight.

The number of deaths with covid-19 continues to rise. More than 2,900 people have died with coronavirus since the beginning of November. The current record of 252 deaths is from 3 November. Last week, there were 130 to 200 victims a day, and at least there were at least 19 dead on Monday. However, with subsequent updates, death data usually change.

The worst situation in the Czech Republic remains in the Vysočina region at the moment. Two of its five districts are the most affected in the country. In the Havlíčkův Brod region, hygienists recorded 712 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days and 614 in the Pelhřimov region. The Chrudim region got over 600 infected per 100,000 inhabitants. On the contrary, Prague and Prague-West are relatively best off, with about 186 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 population in the past week.
