Czech Republic reports 526 new COVID-19 cases

On Wednesday, there were 526 confirmed cases of covid in the Czech Republic. It’s about the same as a week ago, when there were five fewer newly infected. The number of patients hospitalized with coronavirus dropped slightly to 165 people. 24 of them are in a difficult state. The reproduction number showing the rate of spread of the epidemic remained at 1.05. This follows from the data of the Ministry of Health.

The so-called incidence number, ie the number of newly confirmed cases of covid in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, is kept at 29 cases. However, the situation varies from region to region. The worst situation is in Prague with 49 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week. In the Moravian-Silesian Region, the incidence is 44. On the contrary, the relatively best situation is in the Hradec Králové Region, where the incidence number is 11.

The reproduction number has been continuously above one value since August 26, which is the limit for accelerating the epidemic. In the last week, the number R ranges between 1.13 and 1.05. In the second week of September, however, it also rose to 1.47, which was the most this year.

So far, 30,448 people have died with coronavirus in the Czech Republic. Recently, a slight increase in the number of deaths can be observed. In the past six days, the ministry has registered 14 victims. There were six in the second week of September, a week earlier there were two dead.

Laboratories performed 59,000 tests on Wednesday, about 7,000 less than a week ago. For preventive and comprehensive tests, which make up the vast majority, the proportion of positive results was 0.36 percent. A similar result was last Wednesday. In the epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example, for possible contact with the infected, the proportion of positive samples increased to 2.4 percent. In the case of a diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms, for example, are already being tested, the share increased to 2.96 percent. However, during the spring wave of the epidemic, the positivity of the tests was many times higher.

The rate of vaccination is declining. On Wednesday, medics gave 8162 doses of the vaccine. It’s at least this week and a third less than last Wednesday. Since the beginning of vaccination, more than 11.7 million doses have been administered in the Czech Republic, and 5.9 million people have completed vaccination.

Most people describe reactions such as fever, chills, fatigue, injection site reactions, flu symptoms and the like. In two weeks, there were also four suspected deaths after vaccination, a total of 113. The Institute points out that there may be only a temporal relationship between vaccines and reactions without any causal link.

Since last March, when the first demonstrably infected ones appeared in the Czech Republic, laboratories have detected 1,687,973 cases of covid. Most people have already recovered from the disease.
