Czech Republic reports 5,176 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

There were 5,176 new covid-19 cases in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, about 700 less than the previous Tuesday. The slowdown in the number of infected people thus continues, according to the Ministry of Health. Also, the increase in the number of people killed with covid-19 is slower than a week ago. The anti-epidemic system PES’s risk score has remained at 57 points for ten days in a row, which corresponds to the third level of alert out of five. The government has previously decided that measures against covid-19 will not be released from the fourth degree to the third until Thursday.

The daily increases in the number of coronavirus infections have been gradually declining since the turn of October and November when they reached record numbers of around 15,000 infections per day. For example, on Sunday, 29 November, there were 1,074 more cases, which is at least a day since 20 September. Since 1 March, when the first cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the Czech Republic, tests have confirmed covid-19 in a total of approximately 528,500 people.

The increase in coronavirus deaths is also gradually slowing. At the turn of October and November, more than two hundred more died every day. Last week, the increases were just above one hundred, and on Sunday, 29 November, there were 87 more deaths, which was at least since mid-October. On Monday, 103 deaths were recorded, and on Tuesday, 51, the data on the number of deaths for individual days are mostly repeatedly increased retrospectively by the ministry. A total of 8,407 people have died since the epidemic began.

On Monday, however, the proportion of confirmed cases of covid-19 in the number of tests performed increased slightly. It rose from 16.7 percent on Sunday to about 17.9 percent. However, it is still one of the lowest increases in the last two months. The ministry will not publish the share of cases in the number of tests for Tuesday until tonight.

As of Monday, the number of hospitalized people with covid-19 also increased, compared to Sunday, by about two hundred to 4,741. 675 of them are in serious condition. Currently, 64,890 people in the Czech Republic suffer from covid-19. In most of them, however, the disease is milder. Only 7.5 percent of presently ill patients ended up in hospitals.

The PES risk index, which is related to implementing measures against the spread of covid-19, has remained at 57 points since 23 November. However, the situation in the individual regions of the Czech Republic differs significantly.

For example, in Prague, the risk score has been holding at 42 points for several days, just above the lower limit for the third level of alert. However, in several regions, the index is above 60 points, on the fourth of five levels of alert. The highest risk score is now in the Olomouc region with 74 points. It is thus approaching the highest fifth level of alert. On Tuesday, 362 cases of covid-19 were added to the Olomouc Region, about 150 more than a week ago.

Of the Czech Republic’s districts, coronavirus has spread the most in the Havlíčkův Brod region in recent days. In the past seven days, there have been about 546 cases of covid-19 per 100,000 population.
