Czech Republic reports 5,169 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Monday, the Czech Republic reported 5,169 new covid-19 cases, which is less than on the weekend, but 920 more than a week ago. Of the more than 23,000 tests, 22 percent were positive. There are more and more people with covid in hospitals.

The PES risk score fell to 66 points today, remaining in the fourth degree out of five. Behind the improvement is a decrease in the reproduction number to 1.16. There are still five regions in the fifth stage, and the Karlovy Vary region has joined Prague in the third stage. Considering all tests, including antigenic tests, the PES is at 61 points, and the point separates it from the third, milder grade. According to the Ministry of Health, the double data were published by the PES today for the first time.

In the Czech Republic, measures for a lower, third-degree of risk now apply. The country will move to the fourth degree on Friday, the government decided on Monday. The PES score corresponds to this level for ten days.

According to the Ministry’s calculation, the score, which considers all performed tests, including antigenic tests, is kept in the fourth degree on the fourth day. Last week, on Friday, it still corresponded to the third stage with 59 points, but on Saturday it rose to 64 points and on Sunday to 66 points, where it remained on Monday. Even in this case, the decrease in the reproduction number is behind the decline.

According to the Ministry, on Monday, the laboratories performed 14,691 antigen tests, the most in the Central Bohemian Region (1,774). They have performed 61,545 antigen tests in the last seven days.

The antigen test is performed in the same way as a PCR examination with a nasal swab. The advantage is a much faster determination of the result within 15 to 30 minutes. Tests are cheaper, but the test is less reliable. Until now, for example, teachers or people in nursing homes could be tested in this way. From Wednesday, December 16, anyone will be able to have antigen tests tested.

The number of hospitalized on Monday rose by about 300 to 4,547, the highest since December 2. 586 of them are in serious condition. At the beginning of December, more than 4,600 people were treated with coronavirus hospitals, and at the beginning of November, there were more than 8,000.

More than 9,700 people have died with covid since March, 62 deaths were added to statistics on Monday, and 1286 so far in December. Laboratories have so far detected 586,251 infections, and almost 512,000 have already been cured. Currently, there are 64,710 people in the country with confirmed infection, most of which are mild.

At present, according to data from the Ministry of Health, the disease continues to spread most in Havlíčkův Brod, where 510 cases of covid-19 have increased per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. Kroměříž and Chrudim follow it with 455 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. According to this recalculation, there are also Rychnov, Přerov, and Opava. According to PCR tests, the PES score is still the highest in the Zlín Region today with 81 points, but today the Hradec Králové Region also achieved the same number of points. This corresponds to the highest fifth degree of risk, which is defined by 76 to 100 points. There are five regions in it. On the contrary, Prague has been showing the best score for a long time, holding 51 points in third place with 51 points. Today, the Karlovy Vary region also moved to this level with 56 points.
