Czech Republic reports 4,624 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Thursday, the Czech Republic recorded 4,624 new coronavirus cases, about 600 more than last Thursday. According to the Ministry of Health. The daily increases in the number of people infected with coronavirus have been gradually declining since October and November, reaching record numbers of around 15,000 cases per day. However, the anti-epidemic system PES’s risk index has not changed today compared to the previous days. For 12 days in a row, it is at 57 points out of a hundred.

Similar to the daily increases in the number of people infected, the increases in the number of deaths of people with covid-19 slowed down in previous days. At the turn of October and November, more than two hundred more died every day. Last week, however, the increases remained just above one hundred, and on Sunday, there were 92 deaths. Also, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this week, the daily deaths fell just below one hundred. So far, the ministry has reported 46 deaths on Thursday, but the office usually increases the data on the number of deaths for individual days retroactively.

Since 1 March, when the first cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the Czech Republic, tests have confirmed covid-19 in approximately 538,000 people, and a total of 8,641 infected people have died. About 61,000 people in the country currently suffer from the disease, but covid-19 is milder for most of them. According to the latest data, only about 7.2 percent of currently ill patients ended up in hospitals on Wednesday.

The number of hospitalized on Wednesday decreased slightly to 4,544 compared to Tuesday, of which 586 people were in serious condition. At the beginning of November, when the number of hospitalizations was the highest during the entire epidemic, there were about 8,300 people with covid-19 in hospitals. On Wednesday, the share of newly confirmed cases in the number of tests performed also decreased slightly from 22.6 percent on Tuesday to 22.2 percent. The ministry will not release test data for Thursday until tonight.

Of the Czech Republic’s individual districts, coronavirus has been spreading the most in the Havlíčkův Brod region in recent days. In the past seven days, there have been about 486 cases of covid-19 per 100,000 population. The second-highest increase was in Semily, 340 infected per week per 100,000 inhabitants.

The risk index of the anti-epidemic system, which is related to the introduction of measures against the spread of covid-19, has remained at 57 points in the Czech Republic since 23 November, at the third level of alert out of five. However, the situation varies from region to region. Prague has the lowest risk score with 49 points, and conversely, the highest with 71 points is the Liberec region.
