Czech Republic reports 4,563 new coronavirus cases - Czech Points

The Czech Republic reported 4,563 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, about four hundred less than the previous Wednesday. According to the Ministry of Health. Compared to last week, however, the number of tests is decreasing. On Tuesday, the share of confirmed cases of covid-19 in the number of tests rose significantly from Monday’s 16.4 percent to 23.6 percent. The ministry will not publish data on testing for Wednesday until tonight. The anti-epidemic system PES risk index has remained at 57 points out of 100 for 11 days in a row.

The daily increases in the number of coronavirus infections have been gradually declining since the turn of October and November when they reached record numbers of around 15,000 infections per day. Since the turn of October and November, the number of tests has also been declining – from more than 40,000 a day to the current about 22,000, but the share of confirmed cases in the number of tests performed is also gradually decreasing. At the beginning of November, it was at a record 38.4 percent, while on Monday, 30 November, it reached 16.4 percent, the lowest in the last two months. On Tuesday, 1 December, the share rose but is still slightly lower than the previous Tuesday.

Since 1 March, when the first cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the Czech Republic, tests have confirmed covid-19 in a total of more than 533,000 people. About 63,000 people in the country currently suffer from the disease, but for most of them, covid-19 is milder. Only 7.2 percent of presently ill patients ended up in hospitals on Tuesday. The number of hospitalized on Tuesday decreased slightly to 4667 compared to Monday, of which 611 people were in serious condition.

A total of 8,515 people with covid-19 have died since the epidemic began. The recent increase in the number of deaths has slowed, as has the rise in the number of people infected. At the turn of October and November, more than two hundred more died every day. Last week, the increases were just above one hundred. This week, there were 93 more deaths on Tuesday and 50 on Wednesday. However, the ministry usually raises data on the number of deaths for individual days retroactively.

The PES risk index, which is linked to the implementation of measures against the spread of covid-19, has remained at 57 points since 23 November, which corresponds to the third alert level in the anti-epidemic system out of five. However, according to the government’s decision on Sunday, the Czech Republic has moved to the third degree from the previous fourth degree to the present day. Thanks to this, all shops, restaurants, or service establishments will open, and they can partially restore museums or zoos’ operations, for example.

However, the situation in individual regions of the Czech Republic varies. In Prague, the risk score is the lowest, with 47 points. On the other hand, it is the highest with 67 points in several regions – in the Vysočina region and the Olomouc and Zlín regions.

Of the Czech Republic’s individual districts, coronavirus has spread the most in the Havlíčkův Brod region in recent days. In the past seven days, there have been about 531 cases of covid-19 per 100,000 population.
