Czech Republic reports 4,557 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Sunday, there were 4,557 new cases of coronavirus infection in the Czech Republic. It’s 500 more than a week ago and the highest Sunday number since January 3. 148,960 people are now suffering from the infection, which is the most during the entire epidemic, which was confirmed in the Czech Republic for the first time exactly a year ago. In the year, 20,469 people died in connection with the covid disease, and in February alone, almost 3,800 were killed, which is the third-worst month after November and January. It follows from the data of the Ministry of Health.

There are now over 1,500 patients in hospitals with covid in serious condition. The latest available data from Sunday show 1507 patients in serious need, 200 more than a week ago. A total of 7049 people in hospitals with covid and hospitals are on the edge of their capacities. According to the Ministry of Health, 14 percent of intensive care beds are vacant this morning, with 159 remaining for patients with covid. There are 673 standard beds with oxygen for the infected. One hundred forty-six so-called reprofiled beds are ready, intended to provide other care types or expertise, and hundreds more are in the pipeline.

In the year since the first confirmed cases, coronavirus in the Czech Republic has been detected in 1,240,051 people, most of which were mild. 1,070,622 infected were cured.

The reproduction number has dropped by four hundredths to 1.15 and is the lowest in the last 11 days. If the figure is above one, the epidemic accelerates. The rate of spread of the disease remains high. In the last week alone, 82,715 people have been infected, which was almost 16,500 more than a week earlier. According to the Ministry of Health, new records of more than 20,000 new cases per day may be brought in the coming days. Due to the deteriorating epidemic situation and the congestion of hospitals, the rules for people’s free movement have been tightened for three weeks from today. They must remain in their district, but exceptions apply to travel to work, the doctor, or the office. Kindergartens and the remaining open schools and other shops and service establishments have closed, and voluntary coronavirus testing in companies has begun. The rules for covering the nose and mouth have also been tightened.

Labs performed about 37,000 antigenic and PCR tests on Sunday, about eight percent more than a week ago. The proportion of positives among the PCR methods tested remained at 35 percent.

Coronavirus is still the most affected Tachov region, with more than 1,500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. Northern Plzeň follows this with 1293 and Sokolovko with 1227 recalculated points. The eastern part of the country is significantly better off, with Vsetín and Zlín being relatively best off, with less than 340 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week.

According to the Ministry, healthcare professionals in the Czech Republic have administered over 653,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine since the vaccination began on December 27. Almost 240,000 people have already received both required benefits. Two thousand six hundred eight doses were given on Sunday, about 600 more than a week ago. Five hundred fourteen people completed their second dose on Sunday.

Today, the PES index remained at 79 points, which corresponds to the strictest, the fifth level for over two weeks. At the end of last year, the index was governed by measures against the disease’s spread, but now its value is no longer relevant, according to the Ministry of Health. The primary indicator for the government is the occupancy of hospitals.
