Czech Republic reports 3,732 new coronavirus cases - Czech Points

On Sunday, tests confirmed 3,732 new cases of coronavirus in the Czech Republic. It’s less than Christmas Day, but more than Friday and Saturday. There are also more cases compared to last Sunday. The proportion of positive cases rose from almost 35 percent to 38.7 percent. However, the number of tests dropped significantly during the holidays.

While over 39,000 tests were performed on Wednesday, only 10,000 on Christmas Day, and around 8,000 in the next two days, the number of tests approached 10,000 again on Sunday.

The risk index of the covid-19 epidemic in the Czech Republic remains on the second day, with 71 points in the fourth degree. He got into it on Sunday after nine days in the highest, fifth-degree. The measures correspond to the fifth degree from Sunday. For example, most shops had to close, according to the Ministry of Health. In the fifth stage, only the Moravian-Silesian region is out of the regions. The others are in the fourth.

Today, the simplified reproductive number dropped to 0.89, slowing to less than 1. However, the other three parameters influencing the index’s value have deteriorated, but this does not lead to an increase in the score yet. In particular, the infection among the elderly and the number of new cases in the last 14 days worsened.

If the index remains seven days after declining at a lower level of risk, the government should consider possible mitigation measures.

However, this rule has only an orientation function. According to an earlier statement by the director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, Ladislav Dušek, the data from recent days is not very representative. Significantly fewer people went to the tests on the Christmas holidays than before, and according to Dušek, they are mainly people with symptoms and those who were sent to the test by a doctor.

Since March 1, when the first cases of the disease appeared in the Czech Republic, a total of over 674,000 cases of covid-19 have been recorded. About 97,000 people in the Czech Republic currently suffer from the disease, and 4.8 percent are in hospitals. The number of hospitalized on Sunday rose by two hundred to 4626, of which 668 people are in serious condition.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, 11,152 people with covid-19 have died in the Czech Republic. In recent days, the number of deaths per day has been around 90. The ministry has registered 53 deaths on Sunday and 95 on Saturday, but the number of deaths has been regularly adjusted retrospectively by the ministry.

In the vast majority of regions, the PES index is at the fourth degree from Sunday. Even on Saturday, most regions were in the fifth degree. The Moravian-Silesian Region returned to the fifth degree today, as it scored four points for deteriorating the number of newly infected seniors over the age of 65 per 100,000 inhabitants. Three regions are separated from the fifth degree by one point. They are Liberecký, Královéhradecký, and Zlínský. In recent days, the disease has spread most markedly in the Rychnov and Opava regions, where the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants has increased in the past seven days. The lowest score is still in Prague, with 61 points remaining at the lower limit of the fourth degree.

According to doctors and politicians, vaccination is the only way to get out of the current epidemic situation and protect people’s lives. It started in the Czech Republic on Sunday. People can also help reduce the risk of infection by following the 3R rule, wearing veils, disinfecting hands, and keeping two-meter intervals.
