Czech Republic reports 3,638 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

The daily increase in the number of covid-19 cases in the Czech Republic for the third time this week has reached its highest level since the end of April. There were 3,638 more infected on Thursday, which is 2102 more than a week ago. On record since April 20 this year, when the increase was over 3,800 cases, the number of newly infected rose to Tuesday with 3,251 cases. On Wednesday, the increase was even higher and on Thursday the spread of the disease accelerated further. The so-called reproductive number, showing the rate of spread of the disease, also grew again. Today it reached the value of 1.79, which is the highest at least since the beginning of last October. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health.

The number of hospitalized with covid is also increasing . As of Thursday, 771 people climbed, which is the highest number since May 25. 119 people are in serious condition. Compared to the same day of the previous week, almost three-fifths more are hospitalized. Deaths in patients are also on the rise. According to the ministry, 58 people with covid-19 have died in the past seven days, compared with 44 deaths in September and 27 in August.

According to a press release , the reproduction number showing how many other people will be infected by one who tested positiveMinistry of Health from Thursday’s value of 1.65 to 1.79. This exceeded all previous values at least from 1 October 2020. The values for the days before this date are not listed on the Ministry’s website. Continuously since the end of August, the reproductive number has remained above the critical value of one, which means accelerating the spread of the covid-19 epidemic.

Along with the daily increases in the number of infected, the so-called incidence number also increases, ie the number of newly infected in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. To date, the number used by the state to identify anti-epidemic measures has risen from Thursday’s 134 to 154 cases. On Monday, the incidence number was still below 100, in 90 cases. In most regions and Prague, the number has reached over a hundred to date, and in three regions even over 200 cases per week per 100,000 inhabitants. The highest is still in the Moravian-Silesian Region with 248 infected, while the lowest is in the Hradec Králové Region with 55 cases.

The number of coronavirus tests performed is also increasing. About 29,000 PCRs and 55,000 antigen tests were performed the previous Thursday, while about 38,000 PCRs and 53,000 antigen tests were performed on Wednesdays this week.

However, the number of those infected increases more than the number tested, so the proportions of covid cases detected in the number of tests performed are steadily increasing. For preventive and comprehensive tests, which make up the majority of tests performed, the share of positives rose from 0.69 percent in the previous Thursday to 1.93 percent. In the epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example, for possible contact with the infected, the proportion of positives increased from 4.33 to 6.84 percent. The proportion of positives in the so-called diagnostic indication, when people showing symptoms are tested, increased from 7.53 to 14.61 percent, which is the highest since April 27.

During the entire epidemic, more than 1.72 million cases of covid-19 have been recorded in the Czech Republic since the beginning of last March, and 30,593 people have died. 12.03 million coronavirus vaccination doses have been administered in the Czech Republic since last year’s vaccination, and over 6.04 million people have been fully vaccinated. At the end of last week, the daily numbers of vaccinated people began to rise again after a previous several-month decline. Almost 26,000 people were vaccinated on Thursday, which is about 14,000 more than a week ago and the most per day since August 30.
