Czech Republic reports 3,276 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

The spread of covid-19 in the Czech Republic continues to accelerate, as does the increase in the number of hospitalizations and deaths. There were 3,276 cases of covid on Wednesday, more than double the previous week, when 1,500 were newly infected on Wednesday. There were currently 726 hospitalized people with covid-19, the most since May 26 and almost three-fifths more than a week ago. In the last seven days, 58 people have died with covid-19, which is almost a third more than in the whole of September and more than double the number of deaths in the whole of August. It follows from the data on the web Ministry of Health.

The numbers of newly infected, hospitalized and deceased people are currently rising sharply. At the beginning of September, the daily increases in the number of infected people were around two to three hundred, only about 60 were hospitalized and the numbers of deaths per week were in units. This week, the daily increase in those infected has already exceeded 3,000, and the number of deaths has reached numbers of around ten a day in recent days. There have been over 700 people with covid-19 in hospitals since Tuesday, and there were 114 people in serious condition by Wednesday.

However, in addition to the number of new cases of coronavirus infection, the daily number of vaccinated against covid-19 has recently risen again after a previous long-term decline. On Wednesday, the most vaccinated per day since September 3, was about 20,600. The number of administered doses of vaccines for the entire vaccination period, which began in the Czech Republic last December, exceeded 12 million on Wednesday. Approximately 6.04 million people are fully vaccinated. According to a press release , the majority of newly infected, hospitalized and deceased people have formed since the beginning of OctoberMinistry unvaccinated people. Three-quarters of those newly infected in October were not vaccinated, about two-thirds of those hospitalized over the age of 16, and more than half of those who died.

The number of coronavirus tests performed is also growing. About 32,000 PCRs and 39,000 antigen tests were performed the previous Wednesday, while about 33,000 PCRs and 42,000 antigen tests were performed on Wednesdays this Wednesday.

However, as the number of infected people increases by leaps and bounds, despite the higher number of tests, the proportions of detected cases of covid-19 in the number of performed tests are increasing. For preventive and comprehensive tests, which make up the majority of tests performed, the proportion of positives rose from 0.86 percent in the previous Wednesday to 2.12 percent. In the epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example, for possible contact with the infected, the proportion of positives has risen from 4.17 to 7.52 percent, the most since the beginning of May. The proportion of positives in the so-called diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms are tested, increased from 7.04 to 12.84 percent.

The so-called incidence number, ie the number of newly infected in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, is also increasing. To date, the number used by the state to identify anti-epidemic measures has risen from Wednesday’s 117 to 134 cases. The number has been growing for several days in all regions and Prague, and to date it has been above 100 cases in most regions. In the Moravian-Silesian Region, where it is now the highest, it even reached 223 newly infected in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. The lowest is in the Hradec Králové region with 39 cases.

At the same time, the reproductive number indicating how many other people will be infected by one who has tested positive also continues to grow. From Wednesday’s value of 1.59, it has risen to 1.65 to date.

During the entire epidemic, about 1.72 million cases of covid-19 have been recorded in the Czech Republic since the beginning of last March. 30,587 infected died.
