The number of deaths with covid has risen to 16,392 since the epidemic began. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health.

There were 5,301 patients in Czech hospitals on Sunday with covid, of which 941 were in severe condition. Compared to the previous Sunday, the number of hospitalized was 550 lower. Hospitals have had the fewest people with covid since 27 December.

Laboratories performed 18,800 tests for the presence of coronavirus on Sunday. According to preliminary data, about 30 percent of the samples were positive. Compared to the end of the previous week, the number of tests performed was about 1,500 higher. The positivity of the samples increased by almost seven percentage points in the week-on-week comparison. However, the data are normally subject to retrospective revisions.

The number of people who died with the covid rose from 84 to 16,392 against the number published on Saturday. According to the ministry, about half of the increase falls on Sunday. The rest is from previous days.

According to statistics, more than 4,500 people died in January, 35 percent more than in December. The monthly maximum remains November’s 4937 deaths.

Since the beginning of the Czech Republic epidemic last March, the new coronavirus has been confirmed in more than 987,000 people. Almost nine out of ten infected have already recovered.

Throughout January, the coronavirus in the Czech Republic was confirmed in more than 255,000 cases. It was about 46,000 more than in December, but 9200 less than in the record October.

The worst epidemic situation is currently in the Sokolovská region, where there have been 1,260 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week. The Trutnov region follows it with 1,205 cases and the Cheb region with 1175 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the previous seven days.

To date, healthcare professionals in the Czech Republic have administered almost 269,000 doses of covid vaccine. About 37,200 people have already received both doses of vaccination.

On Sunday, 1,213 vaccines were administered in the Czech Republic, at least since 3 January. In a week-on-week comparison, the number of vaccinations was almost 60 percent lower this Sunday.
