Czech Republic reports 18,004 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

Tests on Wednesday confirmed 18,004 cases of covid-19 in the Czech Republic. This is the highest Wednesday value since the beginning of the epidemic. One week earlier, on a public holiday on November 17, the daily increment was lower by 3,859 cases. According to the latest data, there are 5,886 people with proven coronavirus infections in hospitals. The number of patients in severe conditions is approaching 850, which is the highest in the last seven months. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health.

Since the beginning of the week, tests have revealed approximately 58,400 cases of covid. Almost 25,900 were added to the statistics on Tuesday, the most in a single day since the epidemic began last March. The day before, almost 14,500 samples were positive, a record number for the first working day of the week.

The seven-day incidence reached its new high on Wednesday. There are 1,097 cases of infection confirmed in the last week per 100,000 inhabitants. It was 819 on the Wednesday of the previous week.

The Olomouc and Zlín regions show the highest incidence number. In the Olomouc Region, the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants has approached 1,500 in the last week. In the Zlín Region, it is 1,363 cases. On the contrary, in the Karlovy Vary region, it has the lowest incidence, tests in the last week revealed 419 cases of infection per 100,000 people.

At the district level, the epidemic is most prevalent in the Prostějov, Olomouc, Prachatice, Šumperk and Vyškov regions. In contrast, in the Sokolovsko, Náchodsko and Karlovarsko regions, the weekly incidence is the lowest.

Although it was a public holiday on Wednesday last week, the number of tests performed fell week-on-week. According to current data, the laboratories performed 78,800 of them this Wednesday, while on November 17 they tested 85,100 samples. However, the ratio is likely to change as test data for the previous day arrives in the statistics with a delay.

The current value of the reproduction number is 1.18, the Ministry of Health stated in today’s press release. Above the break-even value of one, which means the acceleration of the epidemic, it has been held continuously since August 25, ie for three months.

There were 5,886 patients with coronavirus infections in hospitals on Wednesday. Compared to the previous day, the number of hospitalizations decreased by about 100. In the week-on-week comparison, on the other hand, more than 1,100 patients increased. 848 are hospitalized in difficult condition, the most since April 21 this year.

Since the epidemic began last March, 32,523 people with a proven covid of more than two million have been shown to have been infected. Since the beginning of November, the number of deaths has risen by 1,660 so far, which is almost five times the number of deaths in the whole of October.

Paramedics gave 55,654 doses of covid vaccine on Wednesday. The total number of applied doses since the beginning of vaccination thus exceeded 13.2 million.

So far, almost 6.6 million people have been vaccinated in the Czech Republic, of which 6.3 million have already completed vaccination. Thus, 58.8 percent of all Czechs are fully vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Health. Of people over the age of 12, more than two-thirds have completed vaccinations.
