Czech Republic reports 15,672 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Tuesday, there were 15,672 new cases of covid-19 in the Czech Republic, which is the highest since 6 January. This is the sixth-highest daily increase in the number of people infected during the disease’s entire epidemic. The most infected per day increased on 6 January, namely 17,764. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health. There was a slight decrease in hospitalization than Monday, but there are still almost 1,400 patients in serious condition. The PES score is 75 points. The reproductive number remains at 1.18

Like the number of newly confirmed cases of infection, the share of newly infected in the total number of tests performed also increased on Tuesday. It reached about 40.4 percent, the highest since 9 January. Over 39,000 PCR tests for coronavirus and almost 48,000 antigen tests have been performed.

The number of people who ended up in hospitals with covid-19 fell by about 170 to 6,817 on Tuesday compared to Monday. However, the number of patients in serious condition rose slightly from Monday’s 1,385 to 1,389, the highest level since the beginning of the epidemic. The ministry’s statistics do not include patients who do not show coronavirus symptoms after ten days, although they remain in hospitals.

In the Czech Republic, the number of vacant hospital beds has been steadily declining in recent weeks. While at the beginning of February, there were about 760 beds available for ARO and intensive care units, as of this morning, only 590 beds were available. This is only 14 percent of the total capacity of ARO and ICU places in the country. According to the Ministry, less than a third of beds with artificial lung ventilation is free and about a quarter of the total number of standard beds with oxygen.

Since 1 March last year, when the first people in the Czech Republic were infected with coronavirus, 1.18 million cases of covid-19 have been confirmed. Currently, more than 127,000 people in the country suffer from the disease. A total of 19,682 people with covid-19 have already died. In recent days, the daily death toll has reached values around 150 and 160. At the beginning of February, there were around 130 deaths per day.

It has been vaccinated against coronavirus in the Czech Republic since 27 December. Since then, according to the ministry, nearly 582,000 doses of vaccine have been given by Tuesday night, and approximately 221,000 people have already received both required amounts. Sixteen thousand six hundred sixty-three doses were delivered on Tuesday, which is similar to the previous Tuesday.
