Czech Republic reports 1,261 new coronavirus cases - Czech Points

On Wednesday, tests in the Czech Republic reported 1,261 new cases of covid-19, which is about 600 less than on the same day last week. 81,833 people were vaccinated, almost 2,500 more than last Wednesday and about 1,500 more than on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Health. The number of covid cases per 100,000 inhabitants, now a key indicator for disintegration for the government, continues to decline. To date, it has fallen from 88 to 82 across the country, but differences between regions remain significant. Other statistics from recent weeks also show that the epidemic in the Czech Republic is slowly receding.

On Wednesday, it was the fourth time since the start of vaccination that the number of covid vaccine doses exceeded 80,000. Although the pace of vaccination is accelerating, it still fails to exceed the planned limit of 100,000 vaccinated daily. One week ago, the number of vaccinated was a record so far, when healthcare professionals administered 87,722 doses of the vaccine.

Vaccination began in the Czech Republic at the end of last December, and since then over 3.9 million doses have been given by Wednesday evening. Almost 1.086 million people are fully vaccinated, ie about a tenth of the population. From this week, those interested over the age of 45 can register, next week the younger people in their forties will come next, and then all those older than 16. Vaccines have not yet been approved for younger people.

It is vaccinated in the country with four vaccines, from Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. About 79 percent of the doses were from Pfizer / BioNTech, less than 11 percent from AstraZenec and about a tenth from Moderna. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which has been vaccinated for about three weeks and which, unlike the others, uses only one dose, has so far reached almost 20,000 people.

Since last March, coronavirus has been confirmed in nearly 1.65 million people in the country, most have recovered and 29,825 people with confirmed covid have died. The number of deaths with covid-19 has been declining since about mid-March; in the first half of March, more than 200 infected people died daily, while in the last week the number of victims did not exceed 40 per day. The number of people lying with the covid in the hospital is also slowly declining, as of Wednesday evening there were 1,697, of which 337 were in a difficult condition. There are 679 fewer hospitalized in the week-on-week comparison, and the least since the beginning of last October, the number of patients in serious condition has decreased by one hundred compared to last Wednesday.

At the same time, intensive care beds and devices for severe cases of coronavirus are being released in hospitals. However, the burden on hospitals is greater because the statistics do not include patients who are already negative, but still require hospital care.

So far, each day of this week, laboratories have performed fewer tests in a week-on-week comparison. On Wednesday, the ministry registered over 171,000 of them, a week ago it was about 62,000 more. The number of PCR tests dropped to less than 14,000 and antigenic tests to 157,500. The share of detected diseases in preventive tests, which make up the majority of the total number, is 0.12 percent on the second day. In the so-called epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example, for possible contact with an infected person, the proportion of positives also stagnated at about 2.5 percent. For the diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms, for example, are tested, it dropped from nine to 6.6 percent.

The reproduction number indicating how many other people on average infect one positive test has fallen slightly again today from 0.79 to 0.77. It has been below the break-even value of one, which means a slowdown in the epidemic, for almost a month.

The daily increases in the number of coronavirus infections have been gradually declining since the beginning of March, when they rose to almost 17,000. The number of deaths of people with a proven infection has been declining since about mid-March. Due to the improvement of the epidemic situation in the country, anti-coronavirus restrictions have been gradually relaxed in recent weeks, the next wave will start after the weekend.
