For the second day in a row in the Czech Republic, more than 10,000 covid-19 infections were added in one day. On Wednesday, Laboratories detected 10,813 new covid-19 cases, which is almost 1,300 more than on the same day last week. The day before, tests had shown infection in 12,591 people, the most since January 8. There were 6,195 coronavirus patients in hospitals on the edge of their capacity. The number of infected people in serious condition is now the highest since the beginning of the epidemic. There were 1227 of them on Wednesday, almost the same as the day before. There were 6,195 coronavirus patients in hospitals on the edge of their capacity. The number of infected people in serious condition is now the highest since the beginning of the epidemic. At the ICU and ARO units, 14 percent of all beds are currently available, of which 148 remain for covid patients. According to the head of health statisticians Ladislav Dušek, intensive care capacities in eight of the 14 regions are in danger of being exhausted.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 1.1 million people in the Czech Republic have been demonstrably infected. Almost 996,000 have already recovered, and 18,739 people have died from the infection. More than a hundred people die every day, and they have proven to be covid. At present, there are over 108,500 infected in the Czech Republic.

Laboratories in the Czech Republic performed about 68,000 tests for coronavirus on Wednesday, 35 percent of which were positive. According to experts, the high positivity of the tests, which is around 30 percent, is proof of the population’s high viral load.

The worst epidemic situation is currently in the Tachov region, where in the past seven days, there are 1,044 newly infected people per 100,000 inhabitants—followed by Sokolovsko with 1028 cases. The Trutnov and Cheb regions’ situation has slightly improved, where the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants has fallen below one thousand in the last week. In the districts of Cheb, Sokolov, and Trutnov, a strict restriction on free movement has been in force since last Friday, and the closure of the Tachov region has also been considered, according to the Minister of Health.

Since December 27, when vaccination against the new coronavirus began in the Czech Republic, 189,776 people have received both required doses of the vaccine. To date, medics have administered over 500,600 doses of vaccine, of which 14,712 on Wednesday. According to available data, the manufacturers have delivered over 667,000 doses of vaccines to the Czech Republic, so about three-quarters of them have been used. Czechia has ordered vaccines for about 11 million people.
