Czech Republic reports 10,811 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

On Monday after the Christmas holidays, laboratories in the Czech Republic found 10,811 confirmed coronavirus infections. Which is the third-highest figure since 7 November, more of which were only last week on Tuesday and Wednesday. After the holidays, more testing began, although not as much as before the holidays. The share of positive cases thus rose to 42.26 percent, which is the highest so far. On Monday, the number of hospitalizations also increased by almost 500 to 5,395, so most patients in hospitals with covid in the last month. According to the Ministry of Health.

However, the covid epidemic risk index remains the third day with 71 points in the fourth degree. Measures throughout the Czech Republic from Sunday correspond to the fifth degree, at least until 10 January. The simplified reproduction number dropped to 0.85, remained below 1.0 for the third day. When the value is below one, the epidemic slows down.

According to the Ministry, the other three parameters that affect the index’s value are gradually deteriorating. These are mainly the numbers of infected people and also seniors in the last 14 days. However, this does not yet affect the final score.

The Institute of Health Information and Statistics director, Ladislav Dušek, reminded over the weekend that significantly fewer people attended the tests during the Christmas holidays than before. It was mainly people with symptoms and those who were sent for the test by a doctor.

Therefore, the data were not representative. According to current data, the laboratories performed over 25,000 tests on Monday, while on holidays, it was up to 10,000 a day. But before the Christmas holidays, the number of tests climbed to 40,000.

The renewed increase in the number of infected people is also reflected in the growing number of patients in hospitals. On Monday, most patients with covid were in hospitals in the last month. Of the 5395 hospitalized, 751 are in serious condition. Of the current number of people who have been hospitalized with covid, 71 percent have been cured or released into home care.

Since 1 March, when the first cases of the disease appeared in the Czech Republic, a total of over 685,000 cases of covid-19 have been recorded.

Currently, about 97,000 people in the Czech Republic suffer from the disease. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 11,302 people with covid-19 have died in the Czech Republic, and there have been 61 deaths on Monday. The number of deaths in statistics is regularly adjusted retrospectively by the Ministry. So far, more than 2,700 people have died with covid in December, and in November, it was almost 5,000.

As for the regions, the risk index for most of them shows the fourth degree, in the fifth, is only the Moravian-Silesian region. Four regions are separated from the fifth degree by one point. These are Liberecký, Královéhradecký, Pardubický, and Zlínský. The lowest score is in the South Moravian Region, where it fell from 71 points to 64. The number of points in Prague rose from 61 to 66, while the capital had the lowest score for a long time. Prague scored five points for increasing the average positivity of tests.

In recent days, the disease has spread most significantly in the Rychnov, Opava, and Hradec Králové regions. Over the past seven days, more than 600 people have been infected per 100,000 inhabitants.
