Czech Republic reports 10,723 new COVID-19 cases - Czech Points

New daily COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic broke ten thousand again on Monday with a total of 10,273. According to the Ministry of Health. There are now 162,785 people in the country with a proven covid-19 infection. Most of them are mild, but the number of hospitalized and deceased is snowballing.

To date, 2,365 people have died from coronavirus in the Czech Republic. From Wednesday to Sunday, the number of deaths was always higher than one hundred. So far, there are 75 victims on Monday. However, these data are still being adjusted retrospectively, so, likely, Monday’s balance will eventually be higher.

Since 1 March, when the first cases of the disease appeared in the Czech Republic, 268,370 people with coronavirus have been recorded. So far, more than 103,000 have been cured. According to the latest available data from Sunday evening, there were 5,613 patients in the hospital, of which more than 800 were in serious condition. The number of hospitalizations has increased by about 3,500 in the last two weeks.

The share of newly confirmed cases of covid-19 in the number of tests performed on Sunday reached a record of 34.43 percent. This share has remained above 30 percent in the previous four days. The number of tests exceeded several 000 per day several times last week. The ministry will publish Monday’s balance this evening.

The number of people infected in the Benešov region is growing the most, with about 1,082 cases of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants increasing in the last seven days. Vsetínsko follows them with 1066 cases. More than 1,000 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants are also registered in the Hradec Králové, Náchod, and Zlín regions. In the so-called traffic light of the Ministry of Health, which shows the risk of infection in the Czech Republic, the whole country is already red, in the highest third degree of risk.

According to Monday’s ministry information, the reproduction number shows how many people, on average, become infected from one positive test is 1.36, according to Monday’s ministry information. Compared to the beginning of October, it decreased, reaching October 1.5 by about 1.5. However, to slow down the epidemic, it needs to be lower than one. “The value of 1.36, which currently has the number R, cannot be described as favorable with such a large number of infected persons in the population,” said Ladislav Dušek, director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (IHIS).

The government decided on Monday to further tightening measures. From Wednesday, the curfew will apply at night between 21:00 and 04:59. At that time, people will only be able to go to work for the necessary treatment or take the dog outside. The shops must remain closed from 20:00 until 05:00. It will not be open at all on Sundays. Farmers’ markets are shrinking. Authorities and companies should also order work from home, if possible. The measures should be in force until the end of the state of emergency, until 3 November. There are also plans for comprehensive testing of residents of nursing homes. Care in hospitals and spas will be reduced.
