Coronavirus deaths in the Czech Republic have surpassed one thousand, according to the Ministry of Health. According to the ministerial website, there have been more deaths in October so far than in September.

There were 1896 new COVID-19 cases of infection today at 18:00, on Friday it was a record 4525 confirmed cases for the same part of the day. In the first decade of October, the number exceeded approximately 46,000 newly infected in September. Fifty-six thousand four hundred forty people were cured of the disease; currently, there are 61,522 patients. Most of them have a mild course of the disease, but the number of hospitalized with covid-19 increased to 2146. Four hundred twenty-six of them are in serious condition.

The number of people in hospitals more than doubled during October, and the number of patients in serious condition increased at the same rate. However, the share of hospitalized among those currently infected fell to 3.59 percent on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Health, the first death with a new type of coronavirus in the Czech Republic is from before March 22. The number exceeded 500 on September 17. In October, there are 375 victims so far, in September there were 243 of them.

Daily gains infected last week rose four times in a row to new records, except for Friday’s 8616 cases, including Saturday’s 4636 and Sunday’s 3104 new infections, the most these days of the week. Due to the number of 11,473 tests on Sunday, the proportion of positive among those tested remained above 25 percent, where it has remained for the last three days.

In the last seven days, the coronavirus has spread most significantly in the Uherské Hradiště region, where there are almost 600 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants. Příbramsko follows it with 477, Kolínsko with 444, and Žďársko with 434 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week. The Jičín region is relatively the best with 120 new patients per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days.

Due to the spread of the disease, anti-epidemic measures have been tightened with effect from today. Monuments, theaters, and cinemas have closed, the ban applies to concerts and exhibitions and almost all professional and amateur sports. Visits to religious ceremonies, hospitals, and offices are limited. The government is deciding today to strengthen the measures further. The new restrictions are to apply from Wednesday.
