Czech coronavirus deaths surpass 21,000 - Czech Points

More than 21,000 people have died in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the covid-19 epidemic with a new coronavirus infection. The last thousand deaths occurred in six days. Daily increases in newly confirmed cases remain high. On Wednesday, 15,088 confirmed cases of covid increased, 1,300 more than a week ago. It was the tenth highest daily gain since the beginning of the epidemic. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health.

Since the beginning of the epidemic last March, 21,128 people have died in the Czech Republic with a proven covid, of which 9,188 since the beginning of this year. Four thousand seven hundred thirty-nine people died in January and 3,991 in February. Four hundred fifty-eight cases have been added to the statistics so far since the beginning of March this year.

More detailed statistics from the regional hygienic stations also show that the average age of people who died with a covid from the beginning of the epidemic to the end of February this year is approximately 78 years. The oldest deceased was 110 years old. He came from the Trutnov region and died on 1 February. On the contrary, the youngest person who died with a covid was an eight-year-old girl from the Plzeň-sever district on 22 February. The Novinky.cz server drew attention to the case today. The Ministry does not record any other deaths under the age of 15. Sixteen deaths are under 30.

In total, tests in the Czech Republic have so far revealed 1.28 million infected. More than 85 percent of them have recovered. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, 158,568 are currently ill.

The worst epidemic situation is in the Kolín region, where there are 1293 newly confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. The Tachov region follows this with 1,257 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week.

The onslaught on medical facilities in the Czech Republic connected with the epidemic of the new coronavirus is still great. There were 8,231 people with covid in the hospitals on Wednesday. It was 253 less than on Tuesday, but about 1,000 more than a week ago. More than 1,700 patients were in severe condition on Wednesday, the second day in a row. Statistics hospitalized on the Ministry’s website do not include patients who do not show coronavirus signs after ten days, so the total number of occupied beds is higher.

The reproduction number on Wednesday fell to 1.06 from Tuesday’s 1.09. It reached the level of mid-February. The reproductive number, which expresses the average number of others infected from each positive person, decreases in the Czech Republic on the fifth day in a row.

Vaccination against a new type of coronavirus, which began on 27 December, continues in the Czech Republic. To date, healthcare professionals have administered over 735,000 doses. Approximately 251,000 people received both required doses.
